I am not in a position to judge whether the EU agency overseeing the suspended student grants is being over-zealous or whether their Maltese counterparts were slow at pulling up their socks. I believe there is an ongoing investigation to look into this. On the other hand, it is outrageous that the relevant government agencies seem to have taken it for granted that the students who have invested much time and energy preparing their projects should be the ones to suffer as a result of these agencies' bureaucratic brinkmanship.

The government should foot the bill for these projects until the relevant EU funding is re-established.
