The singles section of the H2Only League has been progressing steadily with the respective fixtures in all four divisions being played almost ever Sunday at St Martin's College, Swatar.

The 40 participants have been graded according to their standard of play. Each fixture consists of two sets of 15 points, giving rise to the possibility of a drawn result.

The first division is now almost at the end of its first round, with only four matches left to be played. This division is turning out to be a two-horse race between defending champion Stefan Salomone (Birkirkara Medairco) and direct contender Kenneth Vella (Pawla Wolves).

Vella leads the provisional standings, unbeaten with six clear wins to his credit, including his direct encounter with Salomone over the weekend.

This result has given Vella a valuable three-point advantage that could prove to be a decisive factor when the two players meet again in the second round.

Brian Zammit (Birkirkara Medairco) trails the leading duo in third place, having won three and drawn two of the seven matches played so far.

Current standings: Kenneth Vella 18 points; Stefan Salomone 15; Brian Zammit 11; Robert Salomone 7; Patrick Cassar 4; Tony Xuereb 3; Martin Farrugia 0.

The activities of the Badminton Association will now stop for the festive period.

The Individual League will resume on January 9 with additional fixtures from the Division One championship as well as from Divisions 2A, 2B and 3 of the Singles League.
