Division Two

Attard 0
Qormi 0

Leaders Qormi were held to a goalless draw by Attard in a match dominated by the strong winds which made it hard for both teams to play some constructive football at the Centenary Stadium.

Qormi dictated the run of play during the first period and after seven minutes an effort by Chris Ellul was almost on target.

Carmel Formosa then headed just wide from a Clyde Grech corner. In the 21st minute Qormi were unlucky not to take the lead when a Grech free-kick was stopped by the bar. From the rebound Carlo Leonardi's shot bounced off the upright.

In the 35th minute Qormi were denied by keeper Spiteri off Johan Scicluna's free-kick and just before the interval Spiteri was again in action with an excellent save to stop James Tabone's volley.

Attard gained the initiative after the break and were denied by Camilleri off Kevin Naudi's close-range effort. In the 66th minute the Qormi keeper made an incredible save on Naudi once again.

Camilleri was aided by the upright to keep out a fierce Abouleze Firas drive and five minutes from time the Qormi no.1 saved the day for his team with another timely intervention on a Jason Borg shot.

Tarxien Rainbows 2
Gzira United 1

Tarxien Rainbows turned defeat into victory with two second-half goals scored by their striking tandem of Simon Shead and Carlos Camenzuli.

Tarxien are now joint leaders with Qormi.

The Maroons had an early Dale Spiteri effort saved by Curmi and at the other end a Shead cross-shot was parried with difficulty by Micallef.

In the 26th minute, Tarxien created a clear scoring opportunity but Camenzuli's volley just missed the target.

Three minutes later, Gzira took the lead from a free-kick which was expertly taken by Julian Spiteri.

Floyd Farrugia scored for Tarxien early in the second half but the goal was disallowed for offside. However, the Rainbows did not have to wait much longer to equalise as Shead hit home from a Guazzo cross on 49 minutes.

Tarxien doubled up their efforts in their bid to win the match and 11 minutes from time they reached their objective when Camenzuli hit home from a Manwel Caruana free-kick.

Tarxien midfielder Chris Camilleri was sent off following an off-the-ball incident and a minute from time Micallef stopped Camenzuli from making the score 3-1 with a fine reflex save.

Mellieha 1
Melita 2

The Amateurs recovered from two successive defeats to move in the top half of the standings after beating Mellieha in a hard-fought match.

Melita had a strong start and broke the deadlock early on through Edward Herrera following a square pass from Daniel Gravino.

In the 20th minute, the Amateurs were close again when Matthew Borg I's header was blocked by Buttigieg but nine minutes later Herrera made it 2-0 with a low drive following a good move by Matthew Zampa.

Mellieha hit the Melita bar after the break following an effort from Wayne Borg St John and wasted an easy chance soon after through Hubert Vella. But, in the 64th minute the northerners reduced the arrears after an own-goal by Melita defender Chris Mifsud Bonnici.

Melita had a good chance to regain their two-goal lead after the referee awarded them a penalty for a foul on Herrera. Borg, however, hit high over the bar from the spot.

The closing stages saw Mellieha in attack but Micallef was alert to stop shots from Borg St John and Borg.

Sta Venera Lightnings 0
St Andrews 2

This was a deserved win for Anthony Garzia's St Andrews who showed the better ideas throughout the match as Sta Venera slumped to their sixth upset, a defeat that left them in the next-from-bottom position.

St Andrews pressed hard to open the score. They had various chances to do so but had to wait until first-half stoppage time to break through the Saints' defensive lines with an Ian Borg goal from the edge of the box.

The Saints continued to be the better team for most of the second period. They sealed the issue in the 54th minute thanks to an Anthony Gera goal after Borg had done all the spadework in the build-up.

Referee: Esther Farrugia.

Division Three

Ta' Xbiex 0
Pembroke Athleta 4

This was an easy outing for Pembroke Athleta who had striker Duncan Edwards the best player on the field of play. He scored a hat-trick against Ta' Xbiex, still without a goal after six matches.

Edwards was on the mark after just 25 seconds when he banged the ball home almost from the kick in.

In the seventh minute, Pembroke hit the crossbar from a Robert Zammit volley and ten minutes later they increased their lead from a Joseph Gauci free-kick.

Ta' Xbiex were nowhere to be seen and soon after the restart Edwards scored again, this time concluding a fine move between Robert Zammit and Ryan Debattista.

Ten minutes from time Edwards rounded up a fine day with a third goal following a pass by Debattista.

Referee: Trustan Farrugia Cann.

Mgarr United 2
Fgura United 4

Despite another positive performance, Mgarr still could not avoid their sixth defeat from as many matches with Fgura notching their first victory of the season.

Aldo Pace put Fgura ahead after just five minutes but Mgarr drew level soon after thanks to an Andre Cauchi goal and just before half-time Malcolm Bugeja's excellent volley had the better of the Fgura keeper.

However, Fgura went in for the break on level terms when Pace was fouled in the Mgarr box and from the penalty Victor Gatt made it 2-2.

Three minutes into the second period, Fgura regained the lead following an own-goal by Mgarr's Johan Said.

Mgarr tried hard to save the match but after going close through Neil Busuttil and Chris Abela, Joe Mizzi scored the 'killer' goal in added time from a quick counter-break.

Referee: Feodor Zammit.
