Valletta Subbuteo Club ended as runners-up in the Major of Rochefort which was played last weekend, in Belgium. 

The Maltese team reached the final after a successful campaign but succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Italian clan Reggio Emilia, with whom Maltese player Massimo Cremona plays. 

The team from Malta's capital city was composed of Derek Conti, Samuel Bartolo, Mario Camilleri, Pascal Scheen and Christian Short. 

Meanwhile, there were three other Maltese players featuring in this tournament with John Zammit and Tristan Fenech playing for Piraeus Lions TSC of Greece and Jason Pisani who was appearing for Master Sanremo, Italy's representatives. 

The tournament had also the individual category with 10 of the 181 participants being from Malta.

Spain's Carlos Flores claimed the Open Category in which the best result from a Maltese was registered by Derek Conti who clinched a last eight berth before being defeated by Saverio Bari.

Samuel Bartolo, Angelo Borg and Massimo Cremona's runs were halted in the last 32 while Tristan Fenech was dumped out in the group stage. 

Malta's Charlie Aquilina reached the semi-final in the Veteran Category where he was defeated by Italy's Gianfranco Calonico, who went to secure the title. 

Jason Pisani, Mario Camilleri and John Zammit were the other participants from the Maltese islands. 

In the U-19 category, Jurgen Balzan placed third with Belgium's Maxime Rairuox ending as overall winner.
