US Ambassador Molly Bordonaro has distributed Lm26,000 raised by the New-York based Foundation for Maltese Charities Inc. to Maltese charitable institutions at her residence in Attard.

Irene Piscopo Rogers, whose father was a founder member of the foundation, attended the ceremony.

The foundation raises money in the US and Canada for Maltese charities.

Over the years, it has raised over $1 million and has donated funds to more than 50 Maltese institutions. The foundation's board serves in a voluntary capacity, so that all the raised funds are donated. In recent years, a number of Maltese Americans have also left bequests to the foundation to be distributed to their designated charities in Malta.

The foundation recently appointed Mary Therese Sultana as president.

She succeeds Frank Asphar, one of the founding members of the foundation, who died last December.
