Petrov: Bulgaria captain Stilian Petrov says he wants to leave Celtic in search of a new challenge in England. "I want to taste something new," the 26-year-old Petrov said. The midfielder signed a new deal with Celtic in January committing him to the Scottish Premier League side until 2010. Petrov, who joined Celtic from CSKA Sofia seven years ago, tabled a written transfer request in April but the Scottish champions rejected it.

Debate time: A Portuguese parliamentary debate about military reform on June 21 will be brought forward by five hours so deputies can watch a World Cup match against Mexico. Parliamentary leaders decided unanimously yesterday to change the start time of the debate to 9 a.m.

Dowie: Iain Dowie was named manager of Premier League Charlton Athletic yesterday and was immediately served with a legal writ by his former club Crystal Palace. Palace chairman Simon Jordan sent a representative to serve the writ during a televised news conference at Charlton's Valley stadium where Dowie was being unveiled. Talking to Sky Sports from Spain, Jordan accused Dowie of making a "fraudulent statement as to his reasons for leaving Palace".

Chelsea Fined: For the second time in five weeks, Chelsea have been fined £10,000 for failing to control their players. Yesterday's fine related to Chelsea's London derby defeat at Fulham on March 19. Chelsea, who lost the match 1-0, had four players cautioned and one, French defender William Gallas, sent off in the final minute.

Kalou Joins Chelsea: Striker Salomon Kalou has joined English champions Chelsea from Feyenoord on a three-year contract. The 20-year-old, younger brother of Ivory Coast captain Bonaventure Kalou, passed a medical and has agreed personal terms, Chelsea said.

Saviola: Striker Javier Saviola is not staying at Sevilla after the end of his one-year loan from Barcelona, his agent Alfredo Cabrera Brizuela said. The UEFA Cup winners had an option to buy Saviola. He moved to Sevilla on loan last August and finished last season as the side's top scorer in the league with nine goals. The agent said the poor relationship between Saviola and coach Juande Ramos was behind the decision.
