Two hold-ups took place within the space of three hours this evening. In the first case, at 6.30 p.m., a man brandishing a pistol held up Jos Debono Jewellery in Sta Lucija Street, Valletta, and escaped with a tray containing several items, many of them featuring diamonds. Two shop assistants who were in the shop at the time were not injured.

The second case occurred at about 9.30 p.m. at Ponsomby Street, Gzira, when two armed and hooded men held up an amusement outlet and escaped with less than Lm300 in cash.

Another amusement outlet was robbed in similar fashion in Mosta on Wednesday.

Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani is conducting an inquiry in this evening's hold-ups.
