The number of applicants for University and Mcast courses has already exceeded last year's total by 1,000, the Ministry of Education said this morning.

Applications for the University and the first call for applications to Mcast have now closed.

Calls for application to the Junior College and the Higher Secondary Schools in Malta and Gozo and the second call for Mcast close next month. Applications for the ITS close at the end of this month.

The ministry said applications for University courses were up by 18.5%  while those for Mcast rose by 8.73% over last year. Applications for the ITS are at the same level. 

The University received 3,160 applications for first degree courses (+320) and 1,228 applications for Masters or other courses (+470) 

At Mcast, the biggest increase was in courses in applied science and art and design.

82% of students are now opting for post-secondary education.
