The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said today that persons who are not EU nationals and are the spouses or dependants of citizens of Malta as well as those who are entitled to hold ‘exempt person' status or have the right of free movement in and out of Malta, are required to be in possession of a Uniform Residence Permit especially for travelling purposes.

The document is required when travelling within the Schengen area as well as when exiting or entering the area unless the person has a visa.

The Uniform Residence Permit has replaced the endorsement, which was previously stamped by the police immigration authorities in the holder's passport . The rubber stamp endorsement is no longer valid for travel purposes including return to Malta.
