The other day, I parked my car on the University grounds, in the same place I have been parking it for over three years without any problems. After my lectures, I was shocked to see that my car had been clamped.

When I looked around I saw other cars near mine which were not parked properly. My car was in no way blocking the pathway or likely to cause an accident.

This could not be said of the cars facing mine, which were also not properly parked. Thus I feel I was discriminated against, as all the other cars should have been clamped and not just mine.

I saw about four people complaining to those responsible for having my car clamped, and I joined them. We asked why the other cars were not also clamped , and they told us that they had been parked after 11 a.m.

I complained to the person responsible for parking arrangements and he told me that a private company, not the University, was responsible for the parking area and thus for clamping my car.

I wanted to check why they told me that cars parked after 11 a.m. were not clamped. That afternoon I tried three times to speak to the security guards at their office, but I could not find them. I looked around the University parking sites but there was no sign of them either. Finally, at around 4 p.m., I asked the security guard to remove the clamp from my car and he did.

University administration staff are allowed to park their cars between white parking lines, while students can park within blue parking lines. But I never saw administration staff cars, no matter how badly parked, being clamped.I paid €23 to have the clamp removed from my car, which is unfair on students. After all, our only income is our stipend.
