Enemalta’s communications officer was quick to explain (The Sunday Times, October 31) the cause of the recent power surge affecting apartments in Ta’ Xbiex.

“As is normal practice... residents... are asked to write a letter... Claims received for compensation will be considered on a case by case basis.”

Public relations at its best, but only if duly followed by proper action. Which, sadly, is not always the case. Certainly not with me!

The double super-surge of June 2009 had to be referred to the Ombudsman after Enemalta failed even to reply to my letters except to state cryptically that the law exonerated it from compensating anyone, whatever the cause. It took the Ombudsman months of dealing with a non-cooperating public entity, Enemalta, before the case was found in my favour.

This happened earlier this year. And I am still waiting to hear from Enemalta or the Resources Authority.
