A United Nations delegation had talks with Foreign Minister Tonio Borg at the ariport this afternoon before heading for talks in Libya.

The delegation was headed by Abdelilah Al-Katib, special envoy of the UN Secretary General.

The latest developments on the Libya crisis were discussed during the meeting.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has sent Mr Al-Khatib to Libya on an urgent mission to try to end the violence and ensure humanitarian aid gets through.

He told reporters last week that he also expected his envoy, a former Jordanian Foreign Minister, to be engaged in the broader dimension of the Libyan crisis, including political issues.

Al-Khatib called it a “delicate and crucial mission” and said he is “prepared to meet all parties concerned”.
