The Unscheduled Bus Services protested this evening that the liberalisation of unscheduled bus services as announced by Transport Minister Austin Gatt this evening was substantially different from what it had agreed with the ministry.

The UBS in a statement over the signature of its chairman, George Hyzler, said its agreement with the ministry had not been signed, subject to approval by the Cabinet.

"It is particularly disturbing that the committee of the UBS was not informed prior to the press conference that what was agreed would not be respected," the UBS said. Instead, the impression had been given that the UBS agreed with the reform as outlined by the minister.

The UBS said it hoped the government would honour what was agreed, in the interests of decency and credibility.

It did not say what the points of disagreement were.
