An Appeal Court confirmed a two-year jail term given to a man who stored fireworks on his roof.

Carmel Falzon, 54, was jailed two years in February. He was also banned from eight years form having a licence to manufacture fireworks.

He had admitted to taking explosives from the 12th May fireworks factory home to manufacture them there carrying them in his car and back.

After he was sentenced, he appealed, arguing that he had a police licence to let off fireworks from his roof.

Mr Justice Michael Mallia said the first court was correct in giving Mr Falzon a two-year jail term to serve as a deterrent for those who abuse of the people who loved feasts and stored explosive materials against the law and health and safety regulations.

It was true Mr Falzon had been given limited permission to keep fireworks on his roof but he went over and above that permitted in his permit.
