Ministers and parliamentary secretaries will be filing their declaration of financial assets before Parliament rises for the summer recess, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said today.

He denied there was resistance by some members of his cabinet.

Three weeks ago, Dr Muscat told Times of Malta that the declarations were ready and that he was going to file them in Parliament in the coming days.

However, the declarations, which according to the code of ethics had to be filed and made public within two months of the appointment of a new cabinet, have not yet been published.

This morning, Dr Muscat reiterated his commitment to adhere to the code of ethics but said that he will now be filing the declarations before Parliament rises for the summer recess.

Parliament is scheduled to rise for the holidays on Wednesday.

Dr Muscat said that he did not have any problems with the declarations and said that it was the previous government who had failed to submit the declarations on time, on various occasions.

The Prime Minister said the government has already been given a first draft on the revision of the code and was awaiting legal advice to move forward.

Dr Muscat refused to give a date as to by when the new code would be in place.

The Prime Minister was also asked if he or the government supported a planned anti-immigration protest in support of the government's position on illegal immigration.

He said neither he nor the government supported the demonstration. He dissuaded it and did not even have 'an ounce of support' for it.
