Following the article "Heritage society laments demolition of old terrace house" (May 6), I would like to ask if the ex-Planning Authority (now MEPA) is pretending to be oblivious to the virtually irrevocable and widespread damage being made to Sliema`s and St Julian`s architectural character.

Does it not realise that riddling the once beautiful seaside resort and fishing village respectively with blocks of flats and hotels is an outrageous and grossly distorted view of progress?

Given the ever-increasing architectural inconsistency in these towns, it does not take great powers of observation to perceive an almost total absence of two elements fundamental to the organisation - planning and authority.
