Mayors and deputy mayors representing the Labour Party yesterday deplored what they called a systematic campaign by the Nationalist Party to undermine the authority and respect of mayors in Labour-dominated councils.
The campaign, they said in a joint statement, was putting spokes in the wheels of the councils` operations and reducing to nothing their efficiency and work in favour of residents.
The PN`s actions were anti-democratic and disrespectful of the will of the majority, they said.
The statement was issued following a meeting of the mayors and deputy mayors at Labour headquarters in Hamrun.
