Two men were beaten up in a savage road rage incident in Zebbug this afternoon.

A run-of-the-mill traffic infringement next to the traffic lights got out of hand when two men charged out of a car to beat up the 21-year-old driver and his passenger as an infant and a woman sat in the back seat, according to the victim's father.

The driver, Daniel Zerafa, a Malta U-21 national team player, was dragged out of the car and beaten to the ground before the passenger was attacked. Seconds later a man appeared out of nowhere and started jumping on the victim's car bonnet and roof, damaging the vehicle, Rennie Zerafa told Times of Malta.

Within minutes the aggressors fled the scene though the victims took note of the vehicle number plate. The victims were treated at the Floriana health centre and a police report has been filed. The police are believed to be looking for the attackers.

The family was driving home after watching the Floriana vs Valletta clash at Ta' Qali stadium.

"Whoever it was wanted to make a scene, but the cowards disappeared. How can they do this when there was an infant in the car," an angry Mr Zerafa said.
