BALZAN 3; QORMI 0

Balzan needed three second-half goals to see off bottom-placed Qormi 3-0 at the Hibs Stadium.

Qormi threatened first after 19 minutes. Terence Vella broke free on the right and hit a curling drive that forced goalkeeper Ivan Janjusevic into a fine diving stage.
Balzan responded a minute later when Justin Grioli picked Lydon Micallef inside the area and his firm drive flashed past the upright.

On 54 minutes Qormi’s Yannick Yankam looked to have been bundled to the ground by Luke Sciberras but referee Glen Tonna waved play on.

Balzan got the breakthrough two minutes later when Paul Fenech won possession in midfield and released Lydon Micallef on the left.

The Reds forward quickly fed Fenech inside the area and the Malta midfielder hit a low drive past Andreas Vella.

Balzan were denied a second goal on 70 minutes when Vella charged out of his goal but was anticipated by Aleksandar Vujacic who served Pedrinho who saw his shot cleared off the line by Ousmane Sidibe.

The ball fell to Da Silva Souza whose effort was again blocked on the line by Clifford Gauci.

But Balzan were not to be denied as on 77 minutes Da Silva Souza sent a dipping cross towards Vujacic who headed past Vella.

Balzan added a third on 85 minutes when Da Silva Souza’s shot was kept out by Vella and in came Micallef who blasted home the rebound.

Lydon Micallef was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
