Two workers were hospitalised after the roof of an apartment they were working on in Msida collapsed.

The incident happened at around 9.25 a.m. in Victor Denaro Street.

First on the scene was a mobile squad car crew who secured the area. An ambulance and Civil Protection Department personnel were on the spot within minutes.

The injured men were given first aid before being rushed off to hospital in an ambulance.

Pia Zammit, director of studies at an adjoining language school, said she heard a "very loud noise" coming from above. At first she thought students had been up to something but then it turned out that the roof of the adjoining building had collapsed.

Police immediately evacuated students and staff to the primary school opposite until they secured the area.
