Stefan Briffa, 26, from Luqa and his brother Antonio, 34 of Tarxien, were accused in court today of having slightly injured two woman constables during the election celebrations yesterday.

The incident happened near the War Memorial in Floriana yesterday afternoon when they were stopped by police as they tried to park their car on the War Memorial roundabout.

Two constables were slightly injured when one of the brothers assaulted them while drunk.

Magistrate Francesco Depasquale sentenced Stefan Briffa to a one month jail term suspended for two years and barred him from driving for six months while his brother was condemned to a one week jail term suspended for one year.

Police Inspector Godwin Scerri prosecuted while lawyer Charmaine Cherrett appeared for the men.
