Labour supporters were continuing to hold street parties and carcades this afternoon while Prime Minister Joseph Muscat was briefed by the head of the Civil Service at the Auberge de Castille.

Dr Muscat's swearing in at 11 a.m and his entry at the Auberge de Castille about an hour later drew thousands of flag-waving supporters to Valletta.

But the city was very quiet in the afternoon as the celebrations continued in various localities. No major traffic problems were caused.

Meanwhile, it is understood that the prime minister also phoned a number of elected candidates as he prepared his Cabinet. However as he explained after his swearing-in, he will await the outcome of vote-counting, which may continue all day tomorrow and possibly stretch to Wednesday, before announcing his team.
