A motorcyclist and a pillion rider were seriously injured early yesterday morning when the motorcycle they were on crashed into a central strip and an electricity pole in St Julian's.

Police said the incident happened in St Andrew's Street at about 2.30 a.m.

The motorcycle was being driven by a 26-year-old man from Paola, who was accompanied by a Spanish woman. Both were taken to hospital where they were found to be in a critical but stable condition.

Magistrate Silvio Meli is holding an inquiry. Police are investigating.
