Two men were remanded in custody yesterday after they pleaded not guilty to stealing various items worth over €1,000 (Lm429.18) from five cars over two days.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi heard that Charlot Cutajar, 45, and Leandros Cutajar, 23, both of Cospicua, allegedly stole from the vehicles between June 15 and 16.

Leandros Cutajar was also accused of breaching his bail conditions.

Taking into consideration the fact that Charlot Cutajar had 13 previous theft convictions, nine convictions for drugs and four for fights and fearing that the men might approach witnesses, the court decided to remand them in custody.

Police Inspector Jesmond Borg prosecuted.

Lawyer Richard Sladden was defence counsel.
