Sliema Wanderers have completed the signing of Tunisian striker Chakib Lachkham.
The 25-year-old Lachkham, capped four times by Tunisia, replaces Ivorian defender Sekou Tidiane Souare who has been released by the Wanderers.
Souare joined Sliema in the close season on a one-year deal but the club exercised the option to terminate his contract during the January transfer window.
Lachkham has had spells with Tunisian clubs EGS Gafsa FC and Esperance de Tunis and Algerian side Moulodia Algiers.
Sliema said in a statement that the acquisition of Lachkham was made possible thanks to the efforts of Ridha Dardouri, the Wanderers’ team manager.
“I am delighted to be joining the most successful club in Malta and I want to prove myself here,” Lachkham said at his presentation yesterday.
“It will be tough but I am looking forward to this challenge.”
Club president Steve Abela is confident that Lachkham will give Sliema a much-needed boost in attack.
“He is a player who fits into the team straightaway. I’m pleased to have him on board,” he said.
Coach Mark Marlow said: “We have been looking to improve our squad and in Chakib we have signed a player who should strengthen our attack.”
