The Italian band Corpo Musicale della Città di Trento will be visiting Malta at the invitation of the Sliema Band on the occasion of the titular feast of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Sliema.

It will perform a musical programme under the baton of Michele Cont at the Sliema Strand on July 4. The programme will also include Libertango by Astor Piazzolla, Imperial March by John Williams, Enacanto by Robert W. Smith Waltz by Dimitri Shostakovich and Caravan by Duke Ellington.

The climax will be the execution of Giuseppe Verdi's grand march from Aida accompanied by a colourful and synchronised display by the Maria Assunta Fireworks Factory of Gudja, winners of this year's national fireworks festival. The Trento band will also perform in Għarb the night before, at 9.30 p.m., on the occasion of the feast of the Visitation.

The band was founded in 1801 and has a long history as Trento's leading band in the autonomous region of Trentino-Alto Adige. It is formed of 50 mainly young musicians. The Sliema Band will perform at Andalo, on the Dolomites, and in Innsbruck, Austria, in mid-August.
