A drug trafficker serving time has had the period extended by two years after being found guilty of trafficking near a school almost 10 years ago.

Glenn Busuttil, 31, admitted to police in a statement he would traffic in cocaine and heroin to sustain his habit. The police caught him with just over two grammes of cocaine and almost three grammes of heroin on July 16, 2000 near a school in Valletta. In 2008, he was jailed for a total of five years in two separate cases for crimes committed in 2007. He appealed both judgments and the jail term in one of them was reduced from three years to 18 months, while the other, a two-year jail term, was confirmed.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke yesterday jailed him for another two years after finding him guilty of trafficking in cocaine and heroin in 2000. She took into consideration the fact that the case had taken so long to draw to a close through no fault of the accused. The court also took into account the fact that he had cooperated with the police throughout their investigations.

Assistant police Commissioner Neville Aquilina prosecuted.
