Three traffic policemen this morning escorted a pregnant woman to hospital for delivery after she was caught in a traffic jam. She arrived just in time and safely delivered a boy.

The police said the officers noticed the Fgura woman's predicament at 7.20 a.m. The car driven by her husband could not get through the traffic in Garibaldi Street, Luqa.

The man had already sought medical assistance after realising he could not make it to Mater Dei.

PC Simon Schembri parked his motorcycle and took the wheel  from the woman's husband. He was then escorted through the traffic by another two policemen - Dunstan Camilleri and Norman Xuereb.

The woman, Alexia Cassar gave birth to a boy soon after making it to hospital. He was named Julian.
