Claims under €3,494 can be filed before the Small Claims Tribunal through an online form as from Monday.

Parliamentary Secretary for Justice Owen Bonnici and Parliamentary Secretary for the Economy Edward Zammit Lewis launched the new service this morning, saying it would make the judicial system more accessible.

People who want to file a claim against another person or a company need an electronic ID number of fill in the forms online and file their case. They can also pay the fees online.

Dr Bonnici said this was the first step to bring the judicial system closer to the people, adding that he hoped more such services will be available in the months and the years ahead.

Dr Zammit Lewis said technology was the most important pillar to eradicate bureaucracy and how this system, created by the Malta Information Technology Agency in conjunction with the Law Courts, was making it easier to file a small claim.
