Bad weather compounded the problems for the cyclists in the Lifecycle campaign in Australia today.

The cyclists, on Day Two of the campaign, were travelling 220km from Warwick to Glen Innes.

The bad weather meant that a significant off-road section of the route degraded considerably, making cycling on the steep, rough terrain very difficult and causing the entire team to slow down.

This exhausting combination over the first two days caused four cyclists to withdraw from the challenge.

"Such a high number of casualties early in the challenge has happened before, but it is still disappointing and will undoubtedly have an effect on morale," the organisers said.

The cyclists who have dropped out will assist the backup team for the remainder of the challenge, and may cycle again later in the challenge if injuries permit.
