The University dissertation board should establish how many students each tutor accepted to take on because too many of them were too weighed down to dedicate enough time.
Veronique Abela, who yesterday graduated Bachelor of Education (Hons), said she was lucky to have a dedicated tutor. However, her fellow students were not so fortunate.
"For some students, stealing some time with their tutor was an ordeal. It is unfair for tutors to take on a lot of students but then fail to dedicate enough time because of other commitments," she said.
"It's better to disappoint students from the start instead of later on in the process when they were facing uncertainties and stress."
Ms Abela also questioned the existing practice whereby a student who failed to attend class was listed as absent.
"I understand that attendance is a form of discipline, but I fail to see why such a method should be used with a group of adults who are responsible for their own behaviour. If I don't attend, I'm the one losing out," she pointed out.
Overall, Ms Abela made a positive speech and ended by saying that students were lucky to be donning the toga and graduating with a degree.
"There are children in less fortunate countries who are so thirsty to learn and would be happy with just a pencil and paper," she said.
