A man was yesterday charged with drink driving, assaulting four policemen, a nurse and the driver of a car he rammed following a traffic accident in Xewkija on Saturday night.

Philip Azzopardi, 32, from Nadur, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, assaulting and slightly injuring the driver of the other car, damaging the ambulance that was called on site and assaulting and slightly injuring the nurse.

He was also charged before Magistrate Anthony Vella in the Gozo Court with assaulting and slightly injuring four policemen who arrived on the scene to control the situation.

Mr Azzopardi pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. He was granted bail against a deposit of Lm1,500 and a personal guarantee of Lm1,500. He was also bound not to drive any vehicle except the trucks he uses for work purposes.

Police Inspector Josric Mifsud prosecuted.
