Attard 3
Sta Venera Lightnings 0

\n

Attard's good run continued with a sound 3-0 win over Sta Venera, the latter suffering their third consecutive defeat to stay bottom of the standings with just one point from four games.

Attard, with Frank Ellul making his debut after moving from Siggiewi, played the better football but it was Sta Venera who went close after five minutes through Joe Chetcuti.

But in the 15th minute, Attard took the lead and never looked back. From an Axisa throw-in, Christian Micallef volleyed home powerfully to hit the opener.

Mark Grech and Jeffrey Zammit tried to lift Sta Venera's hopes but just before the interval Attard gained a penalty for a foul on Kevin Naudi. Jason Borg converted from the spot to make it 2-0.

During the second period Sta Venera saw more of the ball but found Attard keeper Spiteri in good form.

In the 64th minute an incident led to the sending-off of Sta Venera's Chetcuti and Attard substitute Kevin Cassar.

The Saints lost their way and Attard went on to seal their victory with a third goal scored eight minutes from time through Steve Callus.

Qormi 3
Gzira United 2

Qormi obtained their second victory of the season to join Melita at the top of the table. Qormi striker Carmel Formosa played his best match of the season, scoring two goals, one in each half.

Clyde Grech put Qormi ahead after only eight minutes from a free-kick. Gzira tested keeper Camilleri with a Cedric Sciberras header and Qormi replied soon after with efforts from Formosa and Gordian Ohaegbu.

On 37 minutes Qormi scored another goal through Formosa who was put through by a Carlo Leonardi back-heel. However, four minutes later Rhababh pulled one back for Gzira.

Just before the break Gzira were denied an equaliser by Camilleri who saved on a Sciberras effort.

Gzira seized the initiative after the break, putting the pressure on Qormi who had Kevin Fenech red-carded on 53 minutes for dissent.

The Maroons ventured forward but 18 minutes from time it was Formosa who scored for Qormi after collecting a perfect Grech throughball.

Deep into stoppage time, Rhababh scored again for Gzira but his strike came too late for his team to save the match.

Zebbug Rangers 0
Tarxien Rainbows 1

A gem of a goal scored by Carlos Camenzuli in the 90th minute saw Tarxien Rainbows winning the points they needed on Monday to go top of the table together with Melita and Qormi.

Perhaps, the best player in this match was Rangers' keeper Philip Attard. He had a brilliant match and even saved a first-half penalty. However, in the end, he had to bow to Camenzuli's strike.

Tarxien were the more enterprising side during the first period. In the 30th minute they were awarded a penalty for a handsball by Neil Francalanza but Aaron Guazzo's shot from the spot was blocked by Attard.

Tarxien then hit the crossbar from a George Cutajar volley and later on an effort by Floyd Farrugia was saved by Attard.

The Rainbows continued to press forward after the break but could not find a way through the Rangers rearguard. Attard effected fine saves off efforts by Chris Borg and Cutajar but in the last minute of normal time he was finally beaten when Camenzuli hit the winning goal.

Rabat Ajax 0
Dingli Swallows 1

Statisticians at the Centenary Stadium on Monday claimed that this was Dingli's first ever victory over neighbours Rabat in an official derby. Dingli are now in the runners-up position, one point behind the leading trio.

Darren Roe almost put them ahead early on and then three successive free-kicks taken by Charles Azzopardi were saved by Rabat's young goalkeeper James Borg.

The Magpies soon assumed the initiative and in the 20th minute they were denied by Mark Abela off a header by Chris Schembri.

At the other end Dingli created good goal scoring chances by Mark Piccinino and Jason Cachia.

Six minutes after the restart the Swallows took the lead when a lob from mid-pitch by Conrad Zammit deceived Borg.

Rabat pressed forward in search of an equaliser but six minutes from time they were reduced to ten players when Joe Caruana was sent off for serious foul play. In stoppage time Dingli's Brignone was denied by the upright with Borg beaten.

Division Three

Zejtun Corinthians 0
Gharghur 2

Gharghur gave a fine performance, winning the three points at stake thanks to goals from Antonio Sammut and substitute Daniel Bonello. Gharghur are now joint leaders with Gudja United and Zurrieq.

Godwin Mifsud had the first real scoring chance of the game but failed to beat the Gharghur keeper. Zejtun paid dearly for this miss as a few minutes later Gharghur took the lead when Sammut surprised Fardell in the Zejtun goal from a free-kick.

Gharghur were the better team throughout the second period with Fardell bringing off timely saves to deny Adrian Gatt and Chris Vella Petroni. However, on 71 minutes Fardell was left stranded when Bonello hit home from a rebound.

Three minutes from time Gharghur's Karl Vella Petroni was sent off for a double caution.

Fgura United 2
Sta Lucija 2

A Liam Cutajar goal in added time earned Sta Lucija a merited point as they managed to recover from a two-goal deficit.

Fgura remain without a win after two matches. They went close early on through Elton Zammit and Aldo Pace and in the 11th minute they broke the deadlock from an own-goal by Ramon Mifsud who deflected an Eric Lia shot into his own net.

Six minutes later Fgura doubled their lead, Lia heading in from an Ivan Cassar free-kick.

Sta Lucija were not demoralised though and on 24 minutes Cutajar pulled one back from a Kurt Grima cross. After the break, the Saints doubled their efforts and could have scored on various occasions only to be denied by Attard in the Fgura goal.

Four minutes into injury-time Cutajar headed in from a Grima corner for Sta Lucija's merited equaliser.

Pembroke Athleta 2
Ghaxaq 1

A last-gasp goal earned Pembroke their first victory of the season with Ghaxaq suffering their first setback after sharing most of the exchanges in this match.

Ghaxaq were the most active side in the opening half with Pembroke showing better ideas on the changeover.

Andre Cachia put Pembroke ahead 14 minutes from time but Ghaxaq's reaction saw them levelling matters in the 84th minute when Sandro Lapira hit home from close in.

The match looked heading to a draw when just before the final whistle Joe Gauci scored the winner for Pembroke from a free-kick.

Referee: Mariano Debono.

Xghajra Tornadoes 2
Siggiewi 2

This is a fair result which left Siggiewi still searching their first win after three outings. The best player on the field of play was Siggiewi's striker Roderick Farrugia. He scored both his team's goals.

After just two minutes Siggiewi were unlucky as they hit the upright through a Falzon effort but they took the lead soon after when Farrugia headed in from a free-kick.

Siggiewi could have scored again but in the 18th minute it was Brian Gilford who drew the teams level. The Tornadoes moved into the driving seat on the half-hour mark with a second goal from Alex Azzopardi.

After the break Siggiewi played the better football and it came as no surprise when Farrugia made it 2-2 after 68 minutes.

Referee: Paul Apap.
