A team of four sailors from the Malta Young Sailors Club in St Paul's Bay recently represented Malta in the Island Games which were held in the Canary Islands.

Benji Borg, Karl Cremona, Luisa Manduca and Nadia Maniscalco were the members of the Maltese team. Coach Jean Paul Fleri Soler accompanied the Maltese sailors in the Canary Islands.

The creditable results obtained by Malta's young sailors were rewarded with a third place in the teams' classification.

Top spot was claimed by the Canaries and Sicily were second.

Participating in these Games were 28 boys and 23 girls from 13 islands.

Borg placed fourth, missing out on a bronze medal by a single point. Karl Cremona also performed very well, finishing fifth overall.

The two Maltese girls also obtained very encouraging results, considering that they had not been exposed to overseas events prior to their participation in the Island Games. Manduca was sixth in the girls' category while Maniscalco placed ninth.

The Maltese sailors' kits for the Island Games were sponsored by Team Sport.
