Crimsonwing's e-commerce team have designed and built an online B2B solution for UK pharmaceutical giant IDIS.

IDIS specialises in the provision of ethical pharmaceutical solutions to the medical professional and the healthcare industry worldwide. With an extensive portfolio of over 17,000 international medicines, IDIS's network covers the world - it sources 20 new drugs daily and supplies medicines to 62 countries.

The decision to enter into e-commerce was taken to facilitate the growth of their key business area - the export market. E-commerce is by far the cheapest and quickest way to enter multiple worldwide market places. IDIS currently plan to turn over more in the export market alone in 2005 than the whole business does today, and the e-commerce site is seen as crucial to reaching this goal.

IDIS expect to turn over £50 million this year and estimate that 20% of this figure will be transacted on-line.

Going global has allowed IDIS to expand its e-business offering based on Intershop's Enfinity MultiSite IT platform. Currently, the exclusive distributor and implementer for Intershop products in the UK and Ireland, Crimsonwing have developed this B2B e-commerce solution that integrates with IDIS's existing ERP System. This B2B site has been developed from business concept through to implementation.

According to David Walsh, Crimsonwing's CEO: "This new solution opens new revenue streams and markets for IDIS by reaching customers they couldn't reach before. It is a great achievement to have a practical and efficient Web solution working in such a highly regulated market".

The new application, developed by four developers, contains the best-practice processes necessary to accomplish consistent administration, and can be quickly adapted and implemented to fit specific business needs.

It provides the mature flexibility and features that IDIS's customers would require from highly personalised product searches, to simple and effective user administration for organisations with multiple buyers.
