A 78-year-old man who lives in Mellieħa was grievously injured today in a traffic accident in his home town.

The police said the accident happened in Triq Louis Wettinger at 3.15pm.

The victim was driving a Toyota Hilux when he lost control and crashed into a tree.

A medical team from Mater Dei Hospital assisted the man on site before he was transferred to hospital.

The police are investigating.

This is the third accident in Triq Wettinger, Mellieħa in 24 hours.

The first was at 3pm on Saturday when a 40-year-old Briton who was riding pillion was injured when the rider lost control of the bike and fell.

The second was at 6pm on Saturday when another motorcyclist, 57 from Żurrieq, lost control of his Kymco Dink and crashed into a barrier.
