If proof were ever needed of the way we are treated by the powers that be, we do not have to look far. The water leaking out of the Sta Venera tunnels over the past months, if not years, confirms my point that the failing administrators of this island do not bat an eyelid over what we complain about. It has to be a slot on the TV news or a damning article in The Times, or God forbid a tragic accident, to make some useless people start doing something about it. Barely a few hours pass and it is miraculously fixed.

The persons responsible should be dealt with if there remains some decency around. Only lethargy and arrogance are meted out on us until some bright spark comes along to gain brownie points for it!

We are fed up with the couldn't-be-bothered attitude of some government agencies. We pay through the nose and get slipshod service. Some worthy politician should mount a campaign to press for legislation to keep civil "servants" who just warm their seats, liable for their inaction.

We shall hear in years to come what damage this water is causing. I do not believe that the tunnel or the road above it is that safe. The massive amount of water gushing out for months has definitely eroded underlay materials and the hollow crevices above will give up at some time or the other. Recently, on Discovery, I watched a documentary about how a leaking waterway below centuries old houses caused a massive cliff to collapse with the buildings above it! Such is the effect of water erosion.

Perhaps some "expert" with divine predictions can explain the scientific methods used to determine how they came to the conclusion that everything is still safe. I stand to be convinced.

I have made it a point to avoid the tunnels and the roads above them like the plague.
