Lawyer Therese Comodini Cachia, who is also running for next year’s European Parliament elections on the PN ticket, branded a Government’s statement released yesterday as “an utter act of intimidation” against her.

In the statement, the Government made reference to the fact that a Nationalist candidate was representing a Canadian firm that had filed a court application for the cancellation of the citizenship scheme concession which it did not win.

The Government said that the Opposition seemed to be working with this company, while raising questions of a possible conflict of interest, in the context of the PN’s stance against this scheme.

Contacted by this portal, Dr Comodini Cachia said that it was immediately obvious that the statement was referring to her.

She said that it was absolutely abhorrent that the Government issued a statement related to her professional work. She remarked that throughout her professional career she always sought to defend people against Government abuse, regardless of the party in power.

Dr Comodini Cachia also pointed out that the Government press release was also issued the day after she successfully defended Norman Vella. She added that “such acts of intimidation only occur in third world countries”.
