A 35-year-old man was yesterday granted bail against a deposit of €400 (Lm171.67) and a personal guarantee of €2,000 (Lm858.36) after he pleaded not guilty to stealing over €2,329.37 (Lm1,000) in cash and several items in 2005.

Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani heard George Debono, of Qormi, deny stealing the cash and other items from a residence in Għargħur on December 17, at about 9 a.m.

After taking into consideration the value of the items allegedly stolen, the court granted Mr Debono bail and ordered him not to leave his house.

Police Inspector Anthony Por-telli prosecuted.

Lawyer Robert Abela was de-fence counsel.
