While one welcomes the parliamentary reply I was given by the minister concerned that Transport Malta is considering various proposals to reduce the impact of the proposed flyover at Kappara junction on neighbours and their residences, one sincerely hopes that the residents' concerns will be given the full attention they deserve, since as claimed by them their property could end up practically unsaleable due to the proposed plans.

Although I have no vested interests in the area, except for representing it in Parliament, I think one cannot treat lightly an original proposal that could end up with the flyover reaching the level of a number of these properties.

One also sincerely hopes that the authorities will factor in the NGOs' concern that this development could also impact negatively on the special conservation area of Wied Għollieqa that is administered by Nature Trust; particularly since the project as originally indicated in the PDS could end up with parts of the valley being taken up for junction development, together with the removal of a substantial number of carob and Aleppo pine trees which are protected by trees and woodlands regulations.

Finally, one hopes that when this traffic congestion problem is addressed, reassurances will be given that the final plans will vary from the original ones in the PDS as a result of which the junction upgrade could end up in conflict with the north harbour local plan.
