I was invited to attend the Dissertations Showcase of the Department of Mathematics, Science and Technical Education at the University of Malta last week.

Newly qualified teachers presented the results of research which they had carried out towards the end of their B.Ed. degree courses at the University.

All the research projects had a practical application in the classroom and focused on mathematics, physics, home economics and PE. The original research, as shown by the printed dissertations which were available for us to look at, was extremely detailed and thorough.

The talks themselves were of a very high standard and were presented in such a way that the audience, many of whom were not necessarily knowledgeable about the topics, could easily understand them.

I felt privileged to be there.
