F.O.I. President Anton Borg led an FOI delegation at a meeting held with Health Minister Louis Deguara on June 9. The main purpose of this meeting was to introduce the newly established FOI Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Sector Group to the minister and explain the objectives of this manufacturing sector group.

During the meeting, Mr Borg urged the minister and Health Division director general Ray Busuttil, who accompanied the minister at this meeting, to involve the FOI Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Sector Group in any consultations related to the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector.

The FOI officials then presented the government officials with copies of the sector group's position on the Medicines Authority that the sector group had also submitted to the Medicines Regulatory Unit.

The FOI delegation made reference to the Position, which the sector group is currently drawing up on the Medicines Act and highlighted a few of the points raised in this Position, including those relating to the interpretation of EU legislation, as well as fees and time frames.

The FOI president was accompanied at the meeting by FOI executive Cecilia Vella and some of the members of the FOI Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Sector Group: Dr Claude Farrugia, Steinthor Palsson, Vincent Bartolo and Philip Micallef.
