A man from Naxxar was this morning given a six-month jail term suspended for a year after he pleaded guilty to punching a traffic warden in the face and breaking his glasses after the warden asked him to move his car from the side of the road.

Legal aid lawyer Mark Busuttil said that his unemployed client Paul Zahra, 38, would have liked to apologise to the warden for his actions but the warden was not in court.

Police inspector Kevin Farrugia told the court that Mr Zahra had wanted to apologise almost immediately after the incident, which happened in St Paul’s Street, Naxxar, yesterday at 1.55 p.m.

Mr Zahra also pleaded guilty to swearing in public. Mr Zahra has to pay the €25 bill to repair the warden’s glasses.
