A cargo plane laden with food, clothes and other provisions will be leaving Malta this morning for Gaza, which was ravaged by Israeli attacks.

Four 20-foot containers will be loaded onto a Medavia cargo plane and accompanied to Gaza by a CPD official.

The supplies were collected from the public in Malta and Gozo by the Civil Protection Department last Sunday, with department head Peter Cordina saying the response was even greater than expected.

Mr Cordina said although most of the items were donated by people, help was also given by a number of shops. A lot of clothes, blankets, bottled water and packaged food was received.

The war in Gaza has left about 100,000 people displaced and killed about 1,300, of which 410 were children.
