Colette Sultana twice managed to come from behind to win two tough matches on her way to placing sixth in the Swiss Junior Open that was held in Langnau am Albis, Zurich last weekend. The tournament was contested by nearly 200 participants hailing from more than 25 countries.

In her first match, Sultana was drawn against Oceane Wadoux. The French girl dominated the first two games 11-8 and 11-2 and seemed cruising to victory.

But Sultana refused to throw in the towel and playing with greater accuracy, she regained control to take the third game 11-5.

The fourth game proved to be the closest. Wadoux was just one point away from winning the match when leading 10-9. But Sultana won three successive points to force a decider.

Sultana proceeded to win the fifth game 11-6 to claim a place in the quarter-finals.

Next up for Sultana was Fiona Murphy who cruised to the semi-finals with a 3-0 win. Murphy went on to win the tournament.

In her third match, Sultana faced another Welsh player, Sacha Cocks, who had beaten the second seed earlier in the tournament.

With the score reading 2-2, Cocks made a bright start but Sultana hit back strongly to win the set 11-8 and complete a 3-2 win.

In the classification play-off, Sultana lost to French player Marie Stephan 11-3, 11-5, 11-9 to finish sixth overall from 22 participants contesting the U-15 category.

The result is a remarkable improvement for Sultana on the 15th place obtained in the Nordic Junior Open last September.

Following this positive result in Zurich, Sultana will receive the highest number of European ranking points she has ever achieved in this category and will move up to 20th in the European rankings.
