Air Malta said today it is closely monitoring the situation following the announcement of a possible strike action and related disruptions being threatened at London’s Gatwick and Stansted airports on Monday and on August 29 and at Manchester airport today week and on September 1.

The current dispute at Swissport, the airline’s ground handlers at these airports, may also be extended to other UK airports, the airline said.

It said it was in close contact with Swissport and was being updated constantly. Whereas some affected airlines chose to cancel flights, Air Malta said it intended to ensure that disruptions were kept to a minimum.

It was, however, also making contingency arrangements to re-route the Gatwick and Stansted flights to Luton and the Manchester flight to Liverpool should the need arise.
