Gordon Strachan has resigned as Celtic manager, the Scottish club said yesterday. The decision came a day after his team's failure to retain the Premier League title.

Strachan's side finished second behind Glasgow rivals Rangers for the first time in four years following Sunday's 0-0 draw with Hearts at Parkhead.

"It has been an absolute honour and privilege to be the club's manager for the past four years," Strachan said.

Strachan joined Celtic from Southampton in 2005 and won three consecutive SPL titles before finishing as league runners-up to rivals Rangers this season.
