Gary Neville is on the verge of becoming England's most-capped full-back after being handed a surprise call-up by Fabio Capello for next month's World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Andorra.

Manchester United star Neville will compete with Portsmouth's Glen Johnson for the right-back slot in Capello's team despite spending most of the season on the sidelines at Old Trafford.

If Neville is picked for either match in next month's World Cup double-header against Kazakhstan and Andorra, he will equal Kenny Sansom's record for a full-back of 86 caps and would take sole possession of the record with appearances in both matches.

No decision yet says Berlusconi

Milan have made no decision on who will coach the Serie A club next season, owner Silvio Berlusconi said.

With speculation mounting over the fate of current coach Carlo Ancelotti, the club said last week they would clarify the situation had they secured an automatic berth for next season's Champions League against Roma on Sunday.

However, a 3-2 defeat means they can still miss out.

"Milan have not chosen their coach yet," Berlusconi said.

"We promised again to sit around a table with Ancelotti at the end of the season and take decisions that will be good for Milan and for Ancelotti."

Cantona to coach United... says Cantona

Starring in movies and coaching beach soccer is no longer enough for Eric Cantona, so the French Renaissance man is preparing for life as a manager - at Manchester United.

The talismanic forward, crowned "King Eric" by United fans and who captured four league titles and two FA Cups in five years, retired in 1997 at the age of 30. Since then his career has moved into cinema and back to sport as coach of the French beach soccer team.

However, the 43-year-old is in no doubt his destiny lies at Old Trafford.

"I don't know in how many years' time, but my name is already written on the United bench," he said.

"I'm not saying Ferguson will go. I hope with all my heart that he has eternal life with the Reds."

Mokoena to join Portsmouth

South Africa captain Aaron Mokoena will leave Blackburn Rovers and sign a three-year deal with rival Premier League club Portsmouth.

"I can leave in peace knowing that I've been honest to the team, I've been loyal and the team has been loyal to me," the out-of-contract midfielder said.

"I am going to Portsmouth, I'm going there to play, it is what every player wants to do. I have decided it is time for me to move on."

Mokoena, 28, who has made 139 appearances for Rovers in four years, said his main motivation was to play regular first team football in the run-up to next year's World Cup finals in South Africa.

Swiss Busacca to referee CL final

Swiss Massimo Busacca will referee tomorrow's Champions League final between Manchester United and Barcelona, UEFA said yesterday.

The 40-year-old will be taking charge of his first Champions League final, having officiated at the 2007 UEFA Cup final and the Euro 2008 semi-final between Germany and Turkey.

He is no stranger to Manchester United, having been the referee for this season's quarter-final, second leg against Porto.

Busacca will be assisted by his fellow countrymen Matthias Arnet and Francesco Buragina.

The fourth official will be Claudio Circhetta, also from Switzerland.

Benitez keen to keep Alonso

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has insisted that he does not want to sell Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso in the close season.

Benitez was responding to fresh reports in England linking the influential Spanish midfielder with a move to Real Madrid.

And Benitez denied suggestions that his spending plans hinge on selling players like Alonso who would command hefty fees.

"Xabi has three years of his contract left and we don't want to sell," Benitez said.

"I had a private conversation with his agent. My idea is very clear - Xabi is not for sale.

"I think he has said he is happy here at Liverpool. He has said that to the media."

Vieira denies move to Ligue 1

Patrick Vieira denied reports that he is on his way out of Inter and heading to Ligue 1 football this summer.

The French international, who joined Inter from Juventus two years ago, has played a bit-part role under Jose Mourinho this season and his future at the San Siro seems to have been jeopardised by a lack of first-team football.

In recent weeks it has been widely reported that Paris SG and Lyon could be Vieira's next destinations but the former Arsenal skipper has calmed the rumours.

"I am feeling good physically and my place is here," Vieira told L'Equipe.

"There is no problem of any kind. Nobody has come to tell me that I have to leave and I have never asked to be transferred."
