Vittoriosa Stars dropped their first points of the season after they were held by Pietà Hotspurs who defended en masse for long stretches.

Vittoriosa may consider themselves unlucky not to have registered their fourth consecutive victory as they not only hit the woodwork twice but also found Pietà keeper Miguel Montfort in fine form.

The early stages of the match was a drab affair with both sides failing to impress. But still Vittoriosa could have snatched an early lead when after three minutes Clayton Micallef should have done better when with only the goalkeeper to beat, failed to hit the target.

Pietà responded when Cleavon Cassar shot straight at the goalkeeper from just inside the box. As time went by Vittoriosa upped their play and on 27 minutes Henry Makinwa missed a sitter following a precise Johann Spiteri pass.

Three minutes later Makinwa mishit from just inside the box after a good move involving Johann Spiteri and Elton Vella. On 37 minutes Vella's header was saved by Montfort.

On 65 minutes Micallef's piledriver hit the bar with Montfort beaten.

Winston Muscat's increased the pressure and were unlucly again on 77 minutes when Vella hit a post.

With three minutes to go Makinwa's first time effort was again well saved by the Pietà custodian.
