Poland's Przemyslaw Stanczyk was confirmed yesterday as the gold-medal winner in the world 800 freestyle at this year's swimming world championships following the banning of Tunisia's Oussama Mellouli for a positive dope test.
Swimming's world governing body FINA issued revised results for that event and two others - the 400 freestyle and the men's 400 individual medley -in the wake of the Tunisian's disgrace. Australia's Grant Hackett had been moved up to second, to take what was Mellouli's silver medal, in the 400 freestyle won by Park Tae-hwan of South Korea in Melbourne in March, FINA said.
Mellouli was stripped of his title in the 800 freestyle after the Court of Arbitration for Sport annulled all his results and suspended him for 18 months.
